How To Utilise Your Conservatory During The Festive Period!

Having a conservatory is such a wonderful way to access extra space in your home, no matter what you want to use it for. An opportunity to really make the most of your conservatory is over the festive period! When things are hectic, you can create your own little grotto that will make the season all the more special. We’re here to show you how!

Lights!

First up, what festive grotto is complete without lights? We’re starting with the exciting bit because there is so much you can do. A couple of our personal favourites are either dangly string lights that you can hang around the inside of your windows for something of a statement, you could choose more simple lights to drape around the room for a more subtle effect or why not go all out with a full wall of fairy lights? We love a warm hued light to really make the space feel super cosy, and we’d also recommend utilising the ceiling with some lights as when this is covered, it just makes the space feel super homely. You have so many options to make your conservatory feel wonderful and festive with lights!
Soft Furnishings

Now you’ve got your lights up, it’s time to make any seating super cosy with your soft furnishings. Think lots of christmassy throw cushions and blankets that you can get comfy under, then also introduce some extra touches like candles, festive ornaments, wreaths and more. These finishing touches will feel so cosy and absolutely worthwhile. You could go for a more bohemian festive look, or something traditional and fun! If your conservatory is quite simple, then this is a great way to add some colour and texture, without making permanent changes over the festive period!

Sort The Warmth and Blinds

Something that often puts people off from utilising their conservatories is the warmth element, as they get very cold in the winter often. This is usually the result of poor insulation, so warm air can easily escape and cold air can enter, making the space difficult to use. Whilst things like small electric heaters are a temporary (and expensive) measure, a better long term investment would be to get conservatory roof insulation. So much heat is lost through the roof, and so this is a great solution where insulation will be placed on the roof and then covered with a stylish cover to match your interior. It’s really quick to install and can make a significant difference to how the space feels without needing to commit to fuelling a small heater forever!

Then we’d also recommend getting blinds if you don’t already. Many people don’t spend enough time in their conservatory, particularly in the winter, because it lacks privacy if your garden is overlooked by other houses. So, a good solution is to get window blinds where you can control the light, so it can come in during the day but then you get the privacy you want in the evening! This also works well because you can then benefit from an extra level of insulation to keep the space warm.

Consider It For Entertainment

Another great way to utilise your conservatory in the festive period is to consider it for entertainment. If you’re short on space in your house and are having lots of people around, then this is a good way to gain some extra space, so don’t underestimate your conservatory! You could use it as a more relaxing space, or you could set up a table and use it as a dining space if you don’t have a permanent one. If you’re having lots of people and need a long table setup you could always go from one room into the conservatory for a great extension of space. You have so many options here so make sure to consider them all!
